Laser Therapy

At Enhance we use a BIOLASE dental laser. This versatile device performs a host of both tooth and soft tissue procedures, often times with no need for local anaesthesia.

Laser therapy is the least traumatic, fastest healing means of treating various dental problems, and leaves the patient with very little postoperative discomfort and predictable healing. Wounds heal faster and tissues can be regenerated.

A number of procedures can be performed in a precise and effective way:

• Gum lift: Some people’s gums cover more of their teeth than normal and give the appearance of a gummy smile or shorter teeth.  Gums can be raised and sculpted by a simple procedure known as a gum lift.  A laser is used in a precise and effective way to remove the excess gum, sealing as it goes so that there is no need for stitches.  It’s a painless procedure that allows more of your natural teeth to become visible when you smile.
• Ulcers and cold sores: Drug free cold sore and apthous ulcer treatments with immediate pain relief and healing within two to three days.  Three visits in three days usually gives the best result. 
• Bacteria in teeth and gums can be eliminated because the high-energy light beam sterilizes the area being worked on.
• Frenectomy/tongue-tie release: A laser frenectomy is an ideal treatment option for children who are tongue tied  and babies unable to breast feed adequately due to limited tongue movement. A laser frenectomy may also help to eliminate speech impediments and minimise reflux.
• Crown Lengthening:  Laser can reshape gum tissue and bone to expose healthier tooth structure for a stronger foundation for restorations.  It does this  without the need for traditional methods (scalpel and stitches).  Using laser for crown lengthening is very kind to the tissue so post operative discomfort is greatly reduced. Patients who have experienced traditional gum surgery are pleasantly surprised about the lack of post operative pain after laser.
• Tooth Sensitivity: Laser can be used to seal exposed sensitive areas (located on the root of the tooth) that are responsible for hot and cold tooth sensitivity.
• Cavity Detector: We also use lasers to diagnose cavities. The revolutionary DIAGNODENT laser emits a tiny laser beam to detect hidden decay in teeth at its earliest stages. Small lesions are found much sooner than if traditional methods are used allowing for much less invasive fillings. Decay can also be identified so early that it can be reversed through hygiene, diet, and fluoride measures such that it may never need a filling.
